Tish & Nathan’s Summer Pawleys Plantation Wedding in South Carolina

Tish & Nathan’s summer wedding at Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club was such a fun one to photograph. Located in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, just south of Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Plantation was the perfect setting for a day filled with family, friends, laughter, and plenty of celebrating.

As a Pawleys Plantation wedding photographer, I loved getting to document a day that felt so much like them. From getting ready with their closest people to their beautiful Low country surroundings and a reception that turned into one big party, their wedding day was full of the moments that make a wedding worth remembering.

A Summer Wedding at Pawleys Plantation

There was already so much excitement surrounding Tish & Nathan’s wedding before the wedding day even arrived. Friends and family came together to celebrate with them, making the whole weekend feel less like a single event and more like a big gathering of everyone they love.

Then came their wedding day at Pawleys Plantation.

The property is surrounded by the Lowcountry landscape that makes this part of South Carolina so beautiful, with sprawling greens, salt marsh views, mature trees, and plenty of open space throughout the property. It gave us a beautiful mix of classic wedding portraits and the natural scenery that makes a Pawleys Island wedding so special.

And with a summer wedding, there was plenty of that warm South Carolina sunshine, too.

Getting Ready for the Wedding Day

Some of my favorite wedding photographs happen before the ceremony even begins.

The getting-ready portion of the day is when everything starts to feel real. Everyone is together, the excitement is building, and there are usually plenty of little moments happening around the room that the couple doesn’t get to see for themselves.

For Tish & Nathan, it was a chance to spend some of those final hours with the people closest to them before the day really got started.

There was laughter, anticipation, and that familiar feeling of knowing that after months of planning, the day you’ve been waiting for is finally here.

A First Touch & Private Vows

Before Tish & Nathan saw each other walking down the aisle, they shared a quiet moment of their own.

They chose to do a first touch, standing on opposite sides of a wall so they could be close without seeing each other. Instead of saving everything they wanted to say for the ceremony, they took that moment to read private vows to each other.

It was such a sweet way to slow everything down before the rest of the day began. With all of their closest people around and so much excitement leading up to the ceremony, they got a few minutes that were completely theirs.

There was laughter, emotion, and a whole lot of love in those few minutes, and I loved getting to document it without them having to perform for a camera or an audience.

A Beautiful Pawleys Plantation Ceremony

Their ceremony brought everyone together for the part of the day that mattered most.

Surrounded by family and friends, Tish & Nathan officially became husband and wife in the middle of a day that had already been filled with so much love and excitement.

And while the ceremony itself was beautiful, what I loved most was looking around at the people watching them.

There is something really special about photographing a wedding and being able to see the relationships behind it. Parents watching their kids get married. Friends who have known the couple for years. Family members traveling to be there.

Those are the photographs that become even more meaningful years down the road.

Wedding Portraits at Pawleys Plantation

Of course, we made time for portraits of the two of them, too.

Pawleys Plantation gave us so many beautiful options without needing to spend the entire afternoon moving from location to location. The golf course, mature trees, Lowcountry scenery, and surrounding landscape created a really beautiful backdrop for their portraits.

But I never want portraits to take over an entire wedding day.

I want my couples to have the beautiful photographs they’ll frame and put throughout their home, but I also want them to actually enjoy their wedding.

So we made the most of the time we had, got the portraits we wanted, and then they were able to get right back to the people who had traveled to celebrate with them.

That balance is really important to me.

You shouldn’t have to spend your entire wedding day taking pictures in order to have beautiful wedding photographs.

A Reception Full of Laughter and Celebration

Once the reception started, it was time to celebrate.

And Tish & Nathan’s friends and family were ready for it.

The rest of the evening was full of laughter, dancing, hugs, conversations, and all of the completely unscripted moments that happen when a room is filled with people who genuinely love you.

Those are some of my favorite photographs to take.

Not because everything is perfectly posed or because everyone is looking at the camera, but because you can look at the photograph years later and immediately remember what was happening.

For couples searching for a Pawleys Plantation wedding photographer, I think one of the most important things to consider is how you want your wedding photographs to feel.

I don’t think your wedding should feel like one long photoshoot.

There will absolutely be time for beautiful portraits, family photographs, details, and all of the images you’ll want to have years from now. But there should also be plenty of time to put the camera down, hug your grandmother, dance with your friends, eat dinner, and actually experience the day you spent so much time planning.

That’s how I approach wedding photography.

A Wedding Day That Felt Like Them

Looking back at Tish & Nathan’s wedding, what stands out most isn’t one particular photograph or one perfectly planned part of the day.

It’s how much fun everyone was having.

Their wedding felt full of personality. Their people were there. Everyone was celebrating. And there was plenty of room for the day to unfold naturally.

That’s always my goal when I photograph a wedding.

I’ll step in when you need direction and make sure we create the portraits and family photographs that matter. But I’m also watching everything happening around you so that the moments you didn’t plan for are documented, too.

Because years from now, I want you to have more than a collection of pretty pictures.
